Driverless Vehicles Threatened, Attacked in Arizona with Guns, Knives
New transit technologies, like the driverless cars and electric scooters, have drawn the ire of critics, who say they are a danger to public health and safety. In an extreme case last year, a self-driving Uber car fatally hit a woman crossing the street in Arizona in what's believed to be the first fatality involving an autonomous vehicle. Waymo vans still have a driver to override the vehicle in the case of an emergency during testing.
